Ben tre sono i festeggiamenti del Carnevale alle Isole Vergini Americane, uno per ogni isola in tre distinti periodi dell'anno. Ma nessuno celebra il carnevale come i Crucian a St.Croix: durante il periodo del Natale!

Il St.Croix Crucian Christmas Festival dura ben un mese e fa trattenere il respiro. Le cittadine storiche coloniali di Christianted e di Frederiksted ospitano tutte le celebrazioni in calendario: le competizioni di calypso, reggae e steel pan, i banchetti gastronomici e le parate delle scuole in costume, i gruppi folklorici e di danza delle Isole Vergini Americane. Calypso e quelbe sono le musiche delle celebrazioni del carnevale isolano. I ritmi di danza del calypso e del quelbe sono un retaggio della fusion delle culture francese, west Indian ed africana e parte integrante delle celebrazioni, incorporando strumenti tipici: banjo, ukulele, chitarra, tastiere e sassofono. Il risultato é stravagante: le carole natalizie tradizionali quali Silent Night oppure Deck the Halls si ascoltano in ritmi unici con un twist di calypso.

Il cibo si combina a meraviglia mixando tradizioni gastronomiche locali ed africane: Christmas sweet bread, pasteles, kallaloo, vienna cake, calamari ripieni, succhi di frutta tropicali, fried johnny cake bread, benye (una frittella di banane) e golden brown saltfish cakes sono solo alcune tra le tante delicatezze disponibili alla Food Fair. Oltre al cibo ovviamente le bevande più robuste, guava berry liqueur e coquito, due drink locali a scelta. Nel 2007 due le nuove attrazioni: THE PARTY MONARCH COMPETITION e la GRAND BAND-O-RAMA SPECTACULAR, mentre il Village - cuore del festival annuale - offre spettacoli dal 26 Dicembre fino al 5 Gennaio.

CRUCIAN CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL 2007 - Eventi
Dec. 1: Old-Time Tradition Parade at 8 p.m. It will travel down King Street and up Company Street, ending at Christian Shan Hendricks Market.
Dec. 2: The Prince, Princess and Duchess Pageant at 4 p.m. at the St. Croix Educational Center.
Dec 14: Calypso Monarch eliminations, 8 p.m. at Harborlights Night Club, Frederiksted.
Dec. 16: Miss and Mr. St. Croix pageant, at 5 p.m., Island Center for the Performing Arts.
Dec. 20: Coney Island rides open at 5 p.m., Festival Village.
Dec. 21, 22 and 23: Musical concerts each day at the Paul E. Joseph Stadium. Performers to be announced.
Christmas Day, Dec. 25: Concert, Buddhoe Park. Description to be announced.
Dec 26: Festival Village opens at 6 p.m. The official opening night tramp begins at Frederiksted Post Office 7 p.m. and end at the Festival Village.
Dec 29: Cultural Night in the Festival Village, beginning at 8 p.m. The annual Quelbe tramp begins at 8 p.m., Frederiksted Post Office to the Festival Village.
Dec. 30: Annual Water Sports Day, beginning at noon at the Fort Frederik Beach, Frederiksted.
Jan. 1: Latin Night with merengue and bolero dancing in the Frederiksted Village, starting at 8 p.m.
Jan 2: The annual Food, Arts and Crafts Fair, starting at noontime, Ann Heyliger Vegetable Market.
Jan 2: Calypso Monarch Finals, including political satire and social commentary. The show begins at 8 p.m. at Island Center for the Performing Arts.
Jan 3: J'ouvert at 5 a.m. Participants gather at Hannah's Rest corner.
Jan 3: Caribbean Night Extravaganza begins at 8 p.m., Festival Village.
Jan. 4: The annual Children's Parade begins at 10 a.m., from the Claude O. Markoe School to the Festival Village.
Jan. 5: The Adult's Parade begins at 10 a.m., from the Claude O. Markoe School to the Festival Village.
