Contessa Entellina was founded by groups of Albanians who came from the island of Andros, in Greece. They were these arbëreshë that in the December of 1520 undersigned the Capitoli di fondazione, the first document that certifies the birth of the new country. In 1875 they wanted to add to the name Contessa the adjective Entellina, derived from the archaeological discoveries of the Rocca di Entella, a city inhabited by the Elimi, a population of Anatolian-Hittite origin.

In arbëreshe language the inhabited center brings the original denomination of Kuntisa. Eleonora of Aragon reigned over these lands in the fourteenth century, a noblewoman that was eternalized in the famous bust from Francesco Laurana. An “urban fresco” is dedicated to her at the entrance of the village.
